fuck yeah Synesthesia

In the Summer of May 2011, I completely abstained from the Internet as an experiment and to lessen my Internet addiction. I have since returned but I have a strong desire to live without Internet. Please let me know if you know of a community that abstains from Internet as I long to join.

I also apologize for the lack of material and relevance to synesthesia.

“If David Sedaris were an experimental psychologist, he’d be writing essays very much like these. Bering’s unique blend of scientific knowledge, sense of humor, intellectual courage, and pure literary skill is immediately recognizable; no one writes quite the way Bering does. Read this book. You’ll learn, laugh, and then learn some more.” —Christopher Ryan, co-author of the New York Times bestseller Sex at Dawn

“Bering has an uncanny way with words, an incisive capacity for logical thinking, and a stunning talent for breathing new life and enthusiasm into science.” —Gordon Gallup

“Bering’s addictive curiosity and wry, dextrous humor makes this a book that’s as searingly funny as it is impossible to put down.”

“The Ache, Canela, Bari, Yanamamo - people from different language groups from a vast Amazonian area - believe that fetuses are built up over time, like the lustre on pearls, by repeated applications of semen. According to anthropologist Kim Hill of the University of New Mexico, the Ache have different words to refer to “the man who put it in”, “the one who mixed it” and so forth, and men who provide either sex or meat to the mother are considered to have contributed to the creation of a child.”

My life goal is to go over the entire New Scientist archive. Just to find more random theories about life like this.

Promiscuous apes shout about sex

Bonobos are often referred to as the “promiscuous apes”. The females use sex for many social functions: to reduce tension, reconcile conflict, and even to form female alliances against males. Calling out during copulation is a fairly common behaviour in primates. But as well as calling whilst mating with a male, female bonobos call during homosexual interactions with other females. Bonobos have very strong female relationships, which are often sexual. “The vocalisations are an extension of those female friendships,” explained Dr Zanna Clay, who led the study.
